Matching Gifts
Many employers have
matching gift programs in which an employee’s contribution may be matched in
greater or lesser amounts by the company. Please check with your company to see
if they would be willing to match your personal contribution to the Maryland
Securities
Appreciated Securities are
publicly traded stocks that have appreciated in value and have been held in
value for more than 12 months. No capital gains tax is paid on the appreciation
and the full market value qualifies as a charitable contribution deduction. To
maximize these tax benefits, appreciated securities should be given directly to
The Maryland Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch. Depreciated Securities are publicly traded
securities which have decreased in value since purchased. It is best to sell
these securities and contribute the proceeds so the capital loss can be deducted
by the donor.
Creating an Endowment
Endowed funds are held in perpetuity, which means they will be invested to
sustain the Maryland Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch across generations. The Ranch
invests the initial endowed gift and only the income is spent. Donors may add
to the fund at any time and may restrict the purpose of the gift.
An endowed gift offers the giver the opportunity to have their names, or the
name of a loved one, linked to an area of the Ranch in which they have a special
interest. Each donor's gift is a unique expression of the causes and concerns
that matter most in his or her life. Some donors create unrestricted endowments,
recognizing that the needs and challenges of the future will differ from those
of today. Unrestricted gifts are used for the highest priority needs and provide
flexibility as these needs change.
Other donors choose to direct their gifts to programs of special concern to
them, knowing that these additional funds provide an opportunity for those
programs to grow and excel. For example some donors may wish to designate that
the endowment be used for educational or recreational purposes.
Gifts are commonly made in the form of cash, marketable securities, real estate,
personal property, life insurance, and provisions in a will or revocable trust.
Other planned gift options include retirement assets, life insurance, real
estate and life income gifts, unitrusts, annuity trusts and gift annuities.
The Ranch places the endowed funds into a professionally managed long-term
investment portfolio. Earnings from the fund are available each year for support of the fund's designated purpose.
Technical Equipment
The Ranch is in need of PDA.
Our current PDA’s are over 6 years old and we desperately need to
upgrade. We use the PDA’s to ensure
that our staff has the most up-to-date information on our resident.
The PDA’s allow us to carry all of the needed information on our
residents in the palm of our hands.
Ideally we would like to find PDA phones that would work with our current
carrier, AT&T.
If you are able to help us with this need
you can drop the donation off at the Ranch or you could donate through Recycling
for Charities. Recycling for
Charities is a non-profit organization that is committed to protecting the
environment while simultaneously raising funds for charity organizations.
You can find them at http://recyclingforcharities.com/
or just click on the icon below.
You can use that link to make a
technical equipment donation to the Ranch.
